Of course, there's no shortage of alternatives in this hotly contested segment. The competition has had a long time to catch up, but generally speaking, the BMW still holds the advantage among compact luxury crossovers. In other words, the X3 has just gotten better with age, and as our glowing long-term test of a 2012 X3 demonstrates, it was already at the pinnacle of its profession. In particular, the new headlights made it look like a downsized X5, while the newly available diesel engine took fuel economy to new heights with only a slight drop in real-world performance. The 2016 BMW X3 is a handsome crossover SUV that can even do a little off-roading if the mood strikes.Īlthough the X3 receives no notable changes for 2016, it was treated to a significant refresh last year that burnished its appeal. It kind of makes sense, after all, that you'd have to pay a little more for a nearly flawless product. Indeed, it's such a challenge to find fault with this crossover that our only "Con" is its relatively high price. That's pretty remarkable for a vehicle in its sixth year of production, but the X3 pulls it off seemingly without breaking a sweat. The 2016 BMW X3 is a leading light among compact luxury crossover SUVs. I have to rate the BMW customers service as the worst I had to deal with. I constantly was redirected between BMW and the dealership. Unfortunate BMW customers service didn't help me. And it doesn't loose power on high-way speeds.Ĭomplaints - I had certain lease issues with the dealership. However it drives good, with adequate acceleration and fast shifting. After all it's not bad but definitely gives less steering feeling.Ģ) I still don't like sound of turbo-4. Test drive won't show that.ġ) You will not like electric steering at least for a few weeks if you used to old-school BMW with power steering (I guess prior to 2012). I'm lucky the seat is comfortable for me, but you don't know until drove a long distance. Even headrest is only up-down now (used to be 4-way adjustable, it's still 4-way adjustable in 3-series in base trim). I understand that you can get all that as packages, but then price will jump too high:Ģ) Intelligent key less entry (when you just … touch the door handler).ģ) No lambda on front seats. Unfortunately the car is missing some basic options in base trim as for that price. Got basic xDrive28, just added leather, camera and 19" wheels. The right size when you are limited by the parking space. Up until now, I was very likely to purchase another BMW when it comes time for a new vehicle, but after experiencing first hand how BMW really likes to sock it to their customers on the service side, it is highly unlikely I'll be a BMW customer again. Of course BMW doesn't want you to know about this. Shame on BMW for forcing their customers into buying an expensive sub assembly just to replace an sub $100 LCD screen. Part arrived in less than a week, swapped it out with the defective panel and problem solved. Quick google search and found the part for LCD screen out of China for about $150 after shipping. Turns out, the actual LCD screen is removable and is made by Sharp. The other components are not needed to replace the display, so why does BMW force you to have to buy an … entirely new sub assembly? After watching a You Tube video on how to remove the display panel I was able to easily remove the broken display in about 5 minutes. Took it to the dealer and they told me BMW does not just sell the display as a replacement part, but that I had to purchase an entire new sub assembly that included the display as well as other components. I have really enjoyed this vehicle until my CID display recently died on me.
